Chimney Saddle Cricket. Installing a roof cricket. A chimney cricket or saddle is an added ridge in the roof line specifically designed to divert water away or down from the leading edge of the chimney.
This cricket sheds rain water away from the chimney rather than allowing it to beat down onto the side of the chimney that is the most susceptible to water penetration. When the chimney is at the bottom of a roof slope or has roof sloping into it i always install a cricket. Crickets are also often referred to as saddles in this context.
