The illustrations are very juvenile which children can easy relate to. Ashley rated it really liked it feb 09 2015. The story has an a nice appeal it plays a little chirping cricket sound that is only revealed as you get to the last pages.
After the upheaval of the vietnam war reaches them twelve year old kia and her hmong family flee from the mountains of laos to a refugee camp in thailand and eventually to the alien world of saint paul minnesota.
